FOR MY VISIT TO GILDENBURGH WATER
-
ARRIVE SWIM DRIVE. During Covid-19 Gildenburgh Water is open for 1 hour swim sessions on the form below the chart, or 2 hours if you have swum in open water for at least 10 hours in the past 4 weeks, including at least 2 X 1-hour swims, and your body is acclimatised to current water temperatures. You are strongly recommended to wear a full wetsuit until the water temperature rises to at least 23 degrees. If you don’t have your own wetsuit or float, rental details are at Tip#2 below. Please adhere to our ARRIVE SWIM DRIVE policy and don’t be tempted to socialise until the Government’s Covid restrictions permit it. Thank you.
FREE REGISTRATION. All swimmers have to be registered for swimming at Gildenburgh Water. Recent or older registrations are still valid, but if you are not sure, your details have changed, or you are not registered, please register now at https://www.gildenburgh.com/swimreg/ before completing the booking form below. There is no facility at Gildenburgh Water for registering on site.
-
RENTAL ARRANGEMENTS. Rental prices are Full Wetsuit £8 & Personal Float £2. Shorties are available at £6, but only for additional warmth over a full wetsuit. If you need to rent a float or wetsuit, enter the height & chest/dress size of the person who needs the suit, or type float in the rental field on the booking form below.
-
STAY UPDATED. Check this website’s home page at https://www.gildenburgh.com/, and this Swim Bookings page before every visit to stay updated with current fast-changing conditions, special arrangements, and last-minute swim availability.
-
COVID SYMPTOMS. Stay at home if you, or someone you live with, have any of the following symptoms.
A high temperature means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back. You do not need to measure your temperature.
A new, continuous cough means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours. If you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual.
Loss or change to your sense of smell or taste means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal. -
BEFORE & DURING BOOKING. Click the link below to watch our Covid Swim Video Briefing, before you arrive. It saves you valuable swim time by not having to attend an on-site briefing which we are phasing out.

COMPLETING THE BOOKING FORM. The swim booking form is located below the Currently Available Swim Places chart, and is easily identified by the word Required at the start of most fields. The form only takes about 25 seconds to complete.
-
COMPLETION CARE. Take extra care when completing the following fields:-
Payment Amount. Enter £3.50 for a single under 15 or dog on a leash swim, & £7 for a single over 14 swim OR £30 for an under 15 or dog on a leash 10 swim-session pass, & £60 for an over 14 or adult 10 swim-session pass.
Date of Birth. Only required for swimmers under 15.
Start & End Times. Remember to complete these or the form will not send.
Email. TAKE EXTRA CARE to enter and check your correct email address or you won’t receive the auto reply confirmation email. More than 50% of our swimmers incorrectly type, mistype, or don’t check what they’ve typed e.g hitmail.com instead of hotmail.com & .con instead of .com.
Participant Agreement at the bottom of the form. Everyone over 18 needs to tick this agreement box. A parent or guardian of an under 18 swimmer must also state the name of that parent before ticking the box. This robust Covid-Secure policy provides us, and the authorities, with essential “track & trace” information in the event of a Covid-19 outbreak among our swimmers. -
HAND PROTECTION. Bring disposable gloves with you, or swim gloves, to protect you from Covid-19 infection from our communal surfaces e.g. toilets and handrails. Don your gloves before you touch the entry handrail or any other communal surfaces. Ensure you don’t touch your face with gloved hands after contact with communal surfaces.
-
CAR SHARING & SATNAV POSTCODE. Car share ONLY with swimmers in your household. Do not bring spectators, or invite them to come separately. Best SatNav postcode is PE7 2AR, Eastrea Road, Whittlesey. Coming from the East our entrance, signposted Gildenburgh, is on the left just before the new Larkfleet roundabout. Coming from the West our entrance, signposted Scuba & Dive In, is on the right just after the new Larkfleet roundabout. Park in the West car parks at least 2 metres away from the nearest car.
-
CHANGING. Our changing rooms are not allowed to open during Covid, so ensure you park at least 2 metres away from the nearest car, so you can maintain social distancing between your car boot and the boot of adjacent cars in the car park, while you kit-up & de-kit from the boot of your car. Bring a towel robe or dressing gown with you to ensure your personal privacy while changing before and after your swim. But don’t feel embarrassed. Wearing a dressing gown before & after swimming is now the latest fashion at our lake!!
-
SOCIAL DISTANCING. The track from the car park to the lake, and the area around the entry points must be kept clear at all times. Maintain a physical distance of 2 metres or more between yourself, our staff & other non-household swimmers, at the surface, as well as on land. Waving to friends meets this recommendation, whereas handshakes, hugs or elbow bumps don’t. Adopt the rule of the road and pass others on the left while onsite.
-
COOPERATION. Implement all guidelines of these Top 12 Tips during kit-up, the swim, de-kit and while out of the water. Site staff reserve the right to monitor this, impose social distancing of swimmers, or ask you to leave the site.
