Essex covid: Towns which have seen the biggest drop in coronavirus rates in England – Essex Live

Coronavirus infection rates have dropped in every area of Essex.

The latest government data shows that all 14 authorities in the county have recorded a lower infection rate than the week previously.

And some areas in Essex are even among the places with the biggest drop in the whole of England.

Epping Forest has recorded the biggest week-on-week reduction in England, from an infection rate of 1,170.9 cases per 100,000 in the week ending January 7 to 588.5 cases in the week ending January 14.

Similarly, Basildon, Brentwood, Thurrock and Harlow – which have all notoriously been some of the worst hit areas – have all recorded infection rates below 1,000 with some of the largest weekly reductions in the country.

The list of infection rates in Essex is now below 1,000 across the board – an important sign that lockdown is beginning to make a difference.

Even while the rates are improving, it remains crucial to follow government advice as hospitals across the county deal with increased pressure.
