WATER TEMPERATURE – 19 DEGREES & RISING

TOP 12 TIPS & COVID-AWARE GUIDELINES FOR YOUR VISIT TO GILDENBURGH WATER

  1. ARRIVE SWIM DRIVE. During Covid-19 Gildenburgh Water is open for 1 hour swim sessions on the form below the chart, or 2 hours if you have swum in open water for at least 10 hours in the past 4 weeks, including at least 2 X 1-hour swims, and your body is acclimatised to current water temperatures. You are strongly recommended to wear a full wetsuit until the water temperature rises to 22 degrees, or you may not be able to enjoy most of your 1-hour swim. If you don’t have your own wetsuit, rental details are at Tip#2 below. Please adhere to our ARRIVE SWIM DRIVE policy and don’t be tempted to socialise until the Government’s Covid restrictions permit it. Thank you.FREE REGISTRATION. All swimmers have to be registered for swimming at Gildenburgh Water. Recent or older registrations are still valid, but if you are not sure, your details have changed, or you are not registered, please register now at http://www.gildenburgh.com/gildenburgh-water/outdoor-swimming/ before completing the booking form below. There is no facility at Gildenburgh Water for registering on site.
  2. RENTAL ARRANGEMENTS. Rental prices are Full Wetsuit £8 & Personal Float £2. If you need to rent a float or wetsuit, email pauline@divein.co.uk with name, date, arrival time, height & chest/dress size of the person who needs the suit, and add the phrase “I will pay the rental fee by contactless card on arrival”. If you don’t receive a reply within 2 hours, call Pauline on 01733 351288 to check OK receipt of the email request.
  3. STAY UPDATED. Check this website’s home page at http://www.gildenburgh.com/, and this Swim Bookings page before every visit to stay updated with current fast-changing conditions, special arrangements, and last-minute swim availability.
  4. COVID SYMPTOMS. Stay at home if you, or someone you live with, have any of the following symptoms. A high temperature means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back. You do not need to measure your temperature. A new, continuous cough means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours. If you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual. Loss or change to your sense of smell or taste means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.
  5. BEFORE & DURING BOOKING. Click this link to watch the Covid Swim Video Briefing (below), before you arrive, to save valuable swim time by having to attend an on-site briefing which we are phasing out. 6. COMPLETING THE BOOKING FORM. The swim booking form is located under the Availability Chart, and is easily identified by the word Required at the start of most fields. The form only takes about 25 seconds to complete.
  7. COMPLETION CARE. Take extra care when completing the following fields:-
Payment Amount. Enter £4 for an under 15 child swim,
or £8 for an adult swim, or £30 or £60 for an under 15 child swim, or adult swim pass. These passes don’t have an expiry date, so you can carry unused swims over to future seasons. They also reduce the number of times you have to call us to pay ahead from 10 to just 1 – saving you a lot of time. 5-14’s and dogs are still half price for the single swim and the 10 swim pass. Swimmers in the same household can share a child, dog or adult pass as appropriate.

Payment Transaction ID. Enter the Payment Transaction ID.
Date of Birth. Only for under 15 swimmers.
Visit Date. Enter the visit date only in the format DD/MM/2020.
Arrival & Departure. Remember to complete these or the form will not send.
Email. TAKE EXTRA CARE to enter and check your correct email address or you won’t receive the auto reply confirmation email. More than 50% of our swimmers incorrectly type, mistype, or don’t check what they’ve typed e.g hitmail.com instead of hotmail.com & .con instead of .com.
Participant Agreement at the bottom of the form. Everyone over 18 needs to tick this box. A parent or guardian of an under 18 swimmer must also state the name of that parent before ticking the box. This robust Covid-Secure policy provides us, and the authorities, with essential “track & trace” information in the event of a Covid-19 outbreak among our swimmers.

  8. HAND PROTECTION. Bring disposable gloves with you, or swim gloves, to protect you from Covid-19 infection from our communal surfaces e.g. toilets and handrails. Don your gloves before you touch the entry handrail or any other communal surfaces. Ensure you don’t touch your face with gloved hands after contact with communal surfaces.
  9. CAR SHARING. Car share ONLY with swimmers in your household. Do not bring spectators, or invite them to come separately. Best SatNav postcode is PE7 2AR, Eastrea Road. Coming from the East our entrance, signposted Gildenburgh, is on the left just before the new Larkfleet roundabout. Coming from the West our entrance, signposted Dive In, is on the right just after the new Larkfleet roundabout. Park in the West car parks.
  10. CHANGING. Our changing rooms are not allowed to open during Covid, so ensure you park at least 2 metres away from the nearest car, so you can maintain social distancing between your car boot and the boot of adjacent cars in the car park, while you kit-up & de-kit from the boot of your car. Bring a towel robe or dressing gown with you to ensure your personal privacy while changing. But don’t feel embarrassed. Wearing a dressing gown before & after swimming is now the latest fashion at our lake!!
  11. SOCIAL DISTANCING. The route from the car park to the lake, and the area around the entry points must be kept clear at all times, particularly the concrete swimmer jetty. Maintain a physical distance of 2 metres or more between yourself, our staff & other non-household swimmers, at the surface, as well as on land. Waving to friends meets this recommendation, whereas handshakes, hugs or elbow bumps don’t. Adopt the rule of the road and pass others on the left while onsite.
  12. COOPERATION. Implement all guidelines of these Top 12 Tips during kit-up, the swim, de-kit and while out of the water. Site staff reserve the right to monitor this, impose social distancing of swimmers, or ask you to leave the site.
